National History

Alpha Tau Omega was founded in Virginia in 1865, making it the first fraternity founded after the Civil War. Founders Otis Allan Glazebrook, Alfred Marshal, and Erskine Mayo Ross wanted to use Christian brotherly love as a way to help reconciliation between the North and the South. The fraternity quickly became popular and expanded to campuses all over the country. With over 250 chapters and 200,000 members, ATO has been one of the nation's top fraternities for years.

ATO Founders

ATO made its way to Auburn University in 1879, making it the second-oldest fraternity on campus. With distinguished alumni such as former governor William J. Samford of Samford Hall and founder of Toomer's Drugs, Sheldon Toomer, ATO has been firmly rooted in the heart of Auburn University for over a century.
